خلال الأيام التسعة عشرة الماضية، فرّ ما يقارب من 63 ألف صومالي من منازلهم هرباً من القتال بين القوات الحكومية والمليشيات المسلحة، إلى جانب حالة انعدام الأمن التي تسيطر على البلد الذي تمزقه الحرب الأهلية منذ عام 1991. وقالت المتحدثة باسم المفوضية العليا لشؤون اللاجئين، روبيرتا روسو، إن 14 ألف لاجئ منهم هربوا من مقديشو إلى منطقة أخرى. في حين، شردت الحرب الأهلية حوالي 1.5 مليون صومالي ونزحوا قسراً ولكن داخل الأراضي الصومالية،بينما لجأ ما يزيد على 560 ألف صومالي إلى الدول المجاورة، بحسب ما ذكرته مفوضية شؤون اللاجئين.
